Carista EVO is the latest-generation Bluetooth OBD2 scanner from Carista (Prizmos Ltd., Bulgaria). It plugs into the car's OBD2 port and works with the Carista app on an iPhone or Android phone/tablet.
With the free app you get basic diagnostics: engine fault codes and the check engine light, standard OBD2 live data and emissions readiness. EVO includes this diagnostics access without a subscription. With a Carista Pro subscription the app adds advanced diagnostics of all ECUs (ABS, SRS, transmission, TPMS, manufacturer-specific codes, car health report), one-click customizations of manufacturer-hidden features (e.g. seatbelt chime, auto-fold mirrors, welcome / cornering lights, alarm settings), service tools (oil reset, battery registration, electronic parking brake, DPF regeneration, throttle adaptation) and extended live data.
Compared with the older Carista OBD Reader, EVO connects faster, uses Bluetooth 5.1 and a 32-bit ARM processor, and supports additional vehicle networks: SW-CAN (needed for GM customizations) and MS-CAN (Ford). It also gives access to VW Group vehicles with SFD protection. Carista lists 30+ supported car brands; coverage depends on make, model and year – check the vehicle on carista.com before buying.

Coverage follows Carista's published vehicle list (carista.com/apps/supported-cars, 34 brands). Carista does not say which features work on which scanner, so the EVO Scanner and OBD Reader share the same list, except where noted. The free app gives basic fault codes, OBD2 live data and emissions readiness; extended diagnostics, customizations, service functions and extended live data need a Carista Pro subscription. The EVO adds the SW-CAN (GM) and MS-CAN (Ford) networks. VAG SFD unlock (2020+ models marked SFD2 by Carista) needs Pro and two-factor authentication; the newer 2023 SFD version may not be supported. Not listed as functions: used car checks, acceleration test, EV battery health and other app tools. Some Carista models (Holden, Duster Oroch, Grand i10, VW Nivus/Virtus/Tera) are not in the WhatCarTool database. Check your VIN in the Carista app.
